Stephen Bingen

Owner/Sound Engineer/Recording Engineer

Stephen Bingen began playing music at the age of 10 and began running sound at the age of 15. In the late 90s he began to take a more serious interest in sound while he was playing trumpet in the local music scene. By the early 2000s he had begun to amass quite a collection of sound equipment and realized that he had developed a passion for sound. With with his experience in music and technical background, he was able to develop an understanding of all aspects of sound reinforcement and able to provide hassle-free sound reinforcement of a much higher quality and reliability than many other sound companies in town. After a 5-year stint as a computer technician, Stephen returned to Sacramento State University to study Music Education and Horn Performance. However, this path took sharp turn into the field of recording when he realized that many of his fellow students needed someone who could provide high-quality recordings at a low cost. As more and more students were hiring Stephen to record their recitals and outside performances, the faculty members heard about Stephen’s recording services and began hiring him to record some of the Sac State Music Department’s performances. Those faculty members were so pleased with the results that they began hiring him for outside performances and referring him to many other colleagues in the Sacramento Music Scene, and Living Sound began to flourish.

By 2010, Stephen had many high-end clientele, including the Sacramento Opera, Sacramento Choral Society, Sacramento State Jazz Studies Department, and the UC Davis Music Department. Today, Stephen is employed full-time as the staff recording engineer for the UC Davis Department of Music and continues to provide the area’s best location recordings and the best-sounding, efficient, and problem-free live sound reinforcement. With his carefully selected team of qualified engineers, Living Sound is the first choice for serious musicians who have come to expect the level of professionalism and artistic finesse that only Living Sound can provide.
